MUSIC LOVE for this week
As everything is about heading home right now, I am celebrating three albums that are keeping me going this week. They may not be from Australia, but they all in their special way remind me of home.
Sigur Ròs
Ágaetis Byrjujn
I was at a friends on the weekend and we started watching their documentary 'Heima' from a couple of years back when they toured and played small villages in Iceland for free as a way to say thank you and give back to their community. This is what going home is all about.
Michael Franti and Spearhead
Everyone deserves music
Is it possible to have a summer go by in Australia without listening to Michael Franti?
I don't think so.
...everybody needs music, sweet music...aaahhh
Bob Marley and the Wailers
Legend
No need to explain here, just listen.

new crew on the block
Let me introduce a new crew member to lazysunday...
What shall we call you?
What shall we call you?
Gillian.
Tell us about yourself?
I am 28 years old and from St. Louis originally, although I move around every three years. I'd like to say that I'm a photographer and DJ, but that makes me sound cooler than I am really. At the moment I work at a museum. I have a sausage dog named Max.
How Did We Meet?
We met when we were put in a room together in a gross hostel, after we had both moved to London. My first memory of you is walking into my room with a giant suitcase and seeing a tattoed foot hang over the side of the top bunk, followed by a girl with lots of blonde curly hair. I think you yawned and said, "I don't feel so good..." I was so lucky to have met you, because I can't imagine making it through those first few months without you. You're my favorite thrifting buddy and the only other person I know who really understands wanderlust and living out of a suitcase! And the lure of platform shoes. I like that we can go a long time without seeing each other and still be friends.
My favorite album of all time is L.A.M.F. by the Heartbreakers...not too many people have heard of it, which is surprising as it's a 70s punk classic. I'm obsessed at the moment with Studio One reggae, which was also produced in the 70s. At the moment I'm reading a book about the war in Afghanistan, but I'm fighting the urge to chuck it and read Heat Magazine instead. If I'm honest.
If we could plan an adventure together, where would we go?
I'd love to travel through Europe with you in a caravan. Or really anywhere in a caravan, I think it would be fun! We would probably stop at every thrift store between here and Estonia and we would never get to where we were going...
What do you do that makes everyone laugh?
I am clumsy and fall over a lot. A LOT.
What do I do that makes you laugh?
Whenever you write 'hooopla!', which is often, I can hear you saying it in my head and it cracks me up. Hooooopla!!!
The strangest thing happened in the last 24 hours?
A man called at work and asked if I had any money. I asked him to clarify, did he mean me or the place I worked for? He kind of grunted with impatience and said, "I mean how many thousands, millions, billions do you got?" I asked if I could help him with something and he said, "ok, I hit you back in ten days. Bye." And hung up.
What will my next tattoo be?
The next one I get will be a repair, I need to fix the shaky feather on my wrist that I got in a Camden basement. It was after a breakup and I thought it would make me feel better, but instead I ended up with a sort of Neanderthal cave-painting version of a feather.
Famous last words?
I've changed my mind!
Thanks for the thoughts Gillian, welcome aboard!
