Another Sunday…another market day full of vintage finds!
GILLES STREET MARKETS - now held on 3rd Sunday of every Month in the heart of Adelaide, 91 Gilles Street. Gilles Street Primary School. It’s a great stop to meet friends for a coffee and bite to eat on a Sunday morning, it’s not too big, only need about an hour to wander at the most depending on how many goodies you find.
WHAT TYPE OF VINTAGE? This market steers more towards ‘what’s trendy’, mainly stocking items from the 70s, 80s, and even 90s fashion. If your looking for ‘true vintage / antique’ finds from earlier eras then this is not the place for you (try Europe!). Also some great young designers selling jewellery, clothes and a few home wares (think Adelaide’s version of Portobello markets in London). As vintage stock in Adelaide can be pretty limited, you will find items go pretty fast at this market, definitely worth heading there when it first opens.
Here are some items I have picked up from past visits. All have been finds under the AUS$20 mark, so bargains are definitely to be found.
brown, real fur bag (looks a little on the kangaroo side but softer), black real fur collar, leopard fur crossover bag, gold / brass cuff, scarab beetle locket, heavy brass skull and lighting bolt rings, and a double headed cat bangle.
